There are no words written, but there is a list of numbers. The child has dictated a sentence. "I can write my numbers to 32." The numbers are recognizable.

Organization: 1

The child has attempted no words, but has written numbers. The numbers are generally spaced without overlapping. The numbers are written top to bottom, however when a second list was needed, it was written to the left, rather than to the right. Most numbers are backwards. 5 is missing, but there was a space left. 31 is written in place of 30, but also for 31.

Voice: 1

There is no voice in the writing of the numbers. The child is writing something he is proud of being able to do. The dictated sentence demonstrates this pride, providing a bit of voice.

Word Choice: 1

The child uses no letters and is not imitating word patterns. There is no environmental print copied. Word choice will not normally appear in writing until there is a sense of words as representative of spoken language and ideas.

Sentence Fluency: 1

The child does not mimic the use of writing across the page. There is a simple sentence pattern in the dictated label. There is a verbal sense of sentence. Conventions: 1

The child is not writing letter strings or attempting to create standard letters, but writing number strings instead. The list does show spacing to separate the numbers, though it is top to bottom spacing. The student does not need to interpret the list for us.
