There are no words written, but there is a string of letters. The child has not dictated a sentence, but probably could have. The pictures have meaning, but we cannot decipher all of it without help.

Organization: 1

The child has imitated a sentence across the page. It may very well have meaning, if we could decipher it. A sentence sense may be present.

Voice: 1

There is voice in the picture. The child is writing something important to him, but we do not know what it is. There is voice in the sad look on the face of one character.

Word Choice: 1

The child uses letters in strings. There is no environmental print copied. The pictures do stand for something, probably supported by the child's use of letters.

Sentence Fluency: 1 The child does mimic the use of writing across the page. There is a simple sentence pattern, but no words standing alone. There may be a sense of sentence.

Conventions: 1

The child is writing letter strings and attempting to create standard letters, many of which are backwards. There is no spacing to indicate words. The student needs to interpret the sentence for us.
